"Beat the Heat" Blessing Bags
Many individuals utilize public transportation or walk to the Specialty Care Unit that provides services of health, case management and labs. Since often times appointments run long, it's difficult to avoid rain storms during hurricane season or the sun when the humidity is at it's highest. We often collect for those to avoid being cold in the winter, but we at FHL desire to actively work in sun exposure prevention that impacts medications some may take, lowering risk of skin cancer and preventing dehydration in the hot Florida weather. Join us in collecting the following items for case managers to distribute to their clients:
umbrellas, deodorant, refillable water bottles, non-perishable snacks, socks, sunscreen, sunglasses, hats, ponchos, drawstring or wide strap backpacks, reflective tape, stress relief kits*, water, first aid kits, crossword puzzles, small novels, hand towels, mosquito repellant, cards of encouragement
*Stress Relief Kits are symbolic items to help a person destress when having a rough day. With a card explaining each item included in a small bag:
an eraser (to start over when things didn't go right), a penny (so you'll never be broke), a string (so you can tie things together when they fall apart), a hug/kiss chocolate (to remind you that someone cares), feather (to lighten your heavy load), marble (in case people think you've lost yours), rubber band (to stretch when you think you can't go another minute).
Place these items in a backpack or collect them individually. Contact our Legacy Champion, Miss emPOWERed through our contact page to make arrangements for pickup until we finalize drop off locations. Thank you!
Feel free to share what we're collecting along with drop off information by downloading the flyer!
